Note: BL is white from a 95% white neighborhood, 22, no job and lives at home. JD is black from NYC, actor, comedian, gainfully employed. I only point this out to note the differences in perception about this issue.

Minnesota School Faces Lawsuit Over Racist 'Wigger Day'

BL: lolol this will never hold up in court. Just cause kids want to dress street on wed. (BTW i blame the rap music for being the most dominate perception of the black culture. need more artists like Hootie and the blowfish) its like saying casual friday is racist if a black person dresses like a white person. we can call it cracker friday. Btw no uniform code for the school i dont see how they can make the kids change their clothes.

JD: Wow Kaibutsu, you have some really stupid, disconeccted friends. Casual friday? Dressing like a white guy?

BL: i'm stupid yet you dont get that i was saying if the shoe were on the other foot, nobody would care.

Kaibutsu: The assumption of 'rap music' as a static perception of Black culture is disingenuous. It is a type of music and there is far too much diversity in that particular genre to be attributed to one 'look'. Talib Kweli, Tupac, Digable Planets, Eminem, the Roots, Arrested Development, Kanye West, Wu Tang - they represent different versions of 'rap music' and are easily distinguishable from each other in music style and dress.
Also, it is not the music that is the issue: who perpetuates the 'all Black people dress like this' stereotype? The media. Who owns the media? Rich White guys - well, and Oprah, but she doesn't like rap either. Hell, the Black guy that owned BET sold it a few years ago.

But that is not the real issue here. The lawsuit is. It is clear to anyone that has read the complaint [on that page] that the kids dressing up was not the main issue; that is freedom of speech. The problem was what that even was called - officially or unofficially - and that it was not addressed by the school when it was brought to them in a complaint. They tried to sweep it under the rug. If it weren't an issue then why did they send kids home to change clothes when it happened in 2009?

As far as the hostile environment part of the suit: the girl in question was harassed after her mother confronted the school - which is WHY she felt like leaving school. I applaud her for sticking with it and getting her education. And as far as the monetary compensation goes, they're getting off light. $75k is nothing in this litigious age.

JD Yes you're stupid. I would like you to explain what dressing like a white guy is? I've held the same corporate job for 15 years, I was married for 10, play guitar and don't call any of my friends nigga so I guess I'm acting white right? ...but wait, I used to DJ, love hip-hop, been detained by police because they were looking for a mugger(while wearing a suit) and enjoy fried chicken and enjoy the occasional white woman. Do I get my black card for that? Yes, I think you're stupid.
